Galway City Council commenced the review of the current Galway City Development Plan 2017-2023 on 7th January 2021 and preparation of a new City Development Plan for the period 2023 to 2029.
Over half of systems failed inspection and 23% were a risk to human health or the environment.

In a recent decision the OPR upheld a complaint of systemic shortcomings/failings in the planning systems
and processes of Galway City Council and specifically the failure by Galway City Council and its
planning officials to take account of the requirements of the EU Habitats Directives.
